DGC 041 – 10 Favors Custodial Parents Should Do for Their Ex
About this episode
In this episode of the Daddy Got Custody Podcast, Fred Campos, 27 year custody coach, talks about something divorced parents do not discuss nearly enough: the small acts of kindness and cooperation that can make co-parenting easier for everyone — especially the kids.
Fred shares 10 favors custodial parents should consider doing for their Ex, including offering a first right of refusal when childcare is needed, encouraging phone or video calls between the children and the other parent, and listing the other parent as an emergency contact when appropriate. The bigger idea is simple: having primary custody should not mean shutting the other parent out of the child’s life.
The episode challenges custodial parents to think beyond the minimum requirements of a court order and ask what reasonable actions might actually help their children maintain a healthy relationship with both parents. Sometimes a little flexibility, better communication, or a simple courtesy can reduce conflict and make life easier for the child caught between two households.
Good co-parenting is not about doing favors for your Ex because they earned them. It is about doing what you reasonably can to make your child’s relationship with both parents stronger, healthier, and less stressful.
