[F]or those of you that follow me regularly, you know that one overnight trip with each of the kids is on my yearly goals. I have already scheduled a church camping weekend with Little Man next month. But what about Codeman? As you will remember, we had our rain out, comedy-of-errors attempt a few years back, “Who Needs Camping to Bond?” Marshmallows in a Fireplace, and we pretty much agreed we would never do that again.
Best Day Ever Ranch – The Best Way to Camp
Nevertheless, I was trying to find a way to ‘sort of’ camp and spend some time outside, but still have the nerdy luxury of air conditioning and WiFi. (Two absolute stables in a geeky Dad’s life.) Well my good friends at FunCityStuff, either in humor or in helpfulness, invited Codeman and I out to Best Day Ever Ranch.
Located just a little over an hour north of the DFW Metroplex, this is a perfect outdoor family getaway, perfect for any parent/child bonding experience.
Upon arriving we checked into our 256 sq. foot two-story cabin. Our host furnished us with keys and a golf cart, to drive around this spacious facilities. Behind the cabin is an outdoor shower perfect for rinsing off after a day at the lake. Some cabins have outdoor grills and picnic benches for outdoor eating.
Inside the cabin you will find a couch that converts to a bed, a single bathroom with a shower, and a mini kitchen complete with a mini-frig and microwave. The ladder leads up to another loft bedroom, perfect for little people and totally fun for Codeman.
Best Day Ever Ranch – Complete Encapsulated Outdoor Experience
After checking in and unloading our suitcases, we took the golf cart to the main lodge. Here they have two pool tables, a ping pong table, flat screens and free Wifi. The lodge is a perfect indoor place for big group family meetings and meals. Our host lives above the lodge and is always available for any additional needs you may have. We got an opportunity to tour the facilities and even check out some of the other creative cabins (there is a tree house and honeymoon suites)!
The Best Day Ever Ranch has a nice petting area filled with a variety of animals. A short golf cart drive you have your own private lake complete with boogie boards, canoes and lake side flotation devices. Horseback riding is also provided for an additional minimal charge, as well as, lots of places to go on biking or walking trails.
We swam and canoed all day before returning to the cabin for grill roasted chicken and smores. Codeman thought this was one of the best father/son trips we had ever done. I was happy to retreat to a nice air-conditioned bed.
For those living the Dallas/Fort Worth area, or visiting for that matter, make sure to put Best Day Ever Ranch on your ‘must see’ agenda. Two very big thumbs up!
What have been your experiences visiting the Best Day Ever Ranch? What are your ideas for parent/child bonding.
