Are you planning a wedding over the next few months?  Are you considering remarrying with kids?

This is a stressful time for anyone, let alone people who have small children in their families who are going to be attending the event.

Of course, this adds a layer of complication, as there may be tantrums if the little kids do not get the food or entertainment that they want, which is not ideal for a wedding day!

So, if you are inviting kids to your wedding, here are some tips to make it kid-inclusive, without going overboard.

Plan the Food

You know your kid(s), but if there are going to be other kids attending the wedding, it would be unwise to assume that they are going to enjoy the same foods as your kids. When you invite couples with kids, be sure to ask them what foods their kids like and then investigate catering options that offer these foods, or equivalent items. That way, when you book the wedding catering, you will have an idea of what is going to be a hit on the kids’ menu.

For kids who are neurodiverse, it may be worth allowing the parents to bring along food options that they know will be eaten by their kids.

Kid Friendly Wedding – Play Area

Weddings are inherently an adult affair, and kids who are attending your wedding are not likely to be tearing up as you have your first dance.

When you are booking the venue, aim to ask if it is OK for you and the other parents to bring along some toys and have a play area. Or, if there are going to be multiple kids attending the wedding and the reception, look for a venue that may have an adjacent play area on its own. This will help to keep the kids entertained and will (hopefully) prevent meltdowns.

Activity Books

If your budget can stretch to it and the kids attending your event are younger, you can invest in activity books. On some websites online, you can even get these personalised, so each child attendee will get their own book to draw in, or to play games in. Much like the play area, this will help to keep the kids engaged, without being overstimulating. This can also be a good option for kids who may be more introverted and may not be comfortable playing in the set-up play area.

Bouncy Castle Hire

This is a fun option for a wedding anyway, but when you have lots of kids coming to the wedding, it is almost guaranteed to go down a treat.

Hiring a bouncy castle for the reception can help to keep the kids engaged and can also be a fun option for you and your partner to take turns on. It is also an ideal way for kids to blow off steam, which will help to keep their moods more level after the wedding and having to sit down for extended periods. Of course, make sure that when any adults are on the bouncy castle, they haven’t had too many alcoholic beverages!
