Mental health issues are more prominent in men, and men feel all the same emotions as women. As a single dad with a lot to cope with, there is no shame in seeking support. You must shed outdated ideas of what is “manly.” A real man does what is right for his family and community. Fortunately, we are more tolerant as a society today, and you can find some excellent dad support groups online, on social media, and within your local community.

Set Aside Some Alone Time

Everyone needs time to themselves. Whether you are a single father or a single mother, some alone time is critical. Given all the chores and errands that are needed, as well as your job, it can feel like you have no time. But we all get 24 hours! By organizing your time, you will be able to see where you can fit in some time for yourself. If there is no time, you are doing far too much. Even if it is 30 minutes per day, time away from your stresses can be a game changer.

Reduce Single Dad Stress at Work

Even with two parents, managing a household can be a challenge. And what about being a single parent and having to hold down a job? This is very challenging for some people. Yes, most single parents are mothers, at around 40% compared to 8% of single fathers. But that still leaves 2.85 million single Dads. And dads do one thing well; work! It’s admirable to work to provide, and you can work around your kids. But too much work can lead to burnout!

Find Your Best Outlet

Think of what you enjoy doing to relieve stress. We all have something. Some guys love to hit the gym, punch bags, or run for miles on end! Finding what you can do to relieve stress in a healthy way is key to a happy time at home, at work, and with the kids. Maybe you even like playing video games. This can be healthy when managed but can become addictive. Try to stay away from destructive outlets such as taking drugs, drinking too much, or toxic relationships.

Spend Quality Time with the Kids

As a good Dad, you just want to be there for the kids. Of course, there are things that get in the way. This includes work, relationships, and even your ex! However, a happier home comes from spending what little time you have in a constructive and nurturing manner. Quality time with the kids through wholesome activities helps them get through their issues and feel secure. It also means you can be the great dad you know you are and provide them with the care they need.

Summary

Just talking to other people, such as other dads in a support group, is one of the most effective stress management tips for single dads. Overworking won’t help the situation, so try to reduce how much time you spend at your job. Above all, just be there and spend time with the kids.
