Custody Books

I get asked to recommend books all the time. Below is a list of books that I have found helpful over time. I have personally read each one of them and you’ll find my short comments as well. If you know a good book, or you are an author of a good book you want listed here, email me at: fullcustodydad@daddygotcustody.com

For a fast read and overview of the bias associated with fathers trying to gain custody of their kids, this is a great starter book.
Pros: Robert and William give you a very fast overview of what you can expect, very good advice as to what to do in the different situations.
Cons: They dedicate a good portion of the book to telling you the bias of the system, father’s are fighting an uphill battle, etc. etc. Most fathers I know, understand this and are greatly after the practical “What do I do next, right now? Nonetheless, a good start book and one I recommended.

This book is not a fast read but gives you more of the details of the work you will need to do to assist your attorney and your case. This also gives more of a legal standpoint and jargon of what you can expect.
Pros: It is written by an attorney and describes what you don’t know without paying a ton of money in legal fees. I feel it is what Michael wishes his male clients knew prior to see him.
Cons: It doesn’t give any real down to earth practical advice and to not go state specific tends to generalize the law. Now all that said, I find this my second favorite book (until I write my own) to help guide and steer you in your battle.

Now this book is not going to help you win custody. However, I recommend this child’s book to either read with your child, or to make you pause and think of the issues and feelings associated with your kids. It’s a tough read because the issues move away from the adults and digs deep into the mind of the children. I like this book so much, I have dedicated an entire post to it’s review. You can find it here.
